After 16 years of teaching, Rachelle knows how critical reading is to school success and developing a love of learning. She was shocked to learn just how many Minnesota preschoolers aren’t ready to learn in kindergarten and decided to do something about it.
Every day as a PreK Reading Corps tutor, Rachelle helps the children in her Head Start classroom to build a foundation for their future learning with songs, writing practice, read-alouds, and constructive play. She says that as she’s building trusting relationships with the students and watching them grow, she’s also strengthening and diversifying her own skills as an educator.

I serve to make a difference in the lives of my students and the community in which they live. The one-on-one tutoring gives me a chance to help these kids become confident and fluent readers. That confidence bleeds over to other areas in school and outside of school. Confidence breeds success!
