You can make a huge difference in these kids’ lives. Serving in Reading Corps was a nice bridge … and transition into my next step.
Serving with Reading Corps while working toward her special education teaching license gave Katie a head start in applying for jobs in elementary education. She says service helped her develop her communication skills with both teachers and students, improve time and behavior management, and gain a better understanding of reading instruction and data collection. Katie said, “I have a passion for encouraging young minds and supporting their ability to reach their full potential, whatever it takes.” Reading Corps gave her the opportunity to do just that.
After her service, she’s planning to pursue a teaching position in special education and will also be competing as a state contestant for the Miss Minnesota USA pageant.
I serve to make a difference in the lives of my students and the community in which they live. The one-on-one tutoring gives me a chance to help these kids become confident and fluent readers. That confidence bleeds over to other areas in school and outside of school. Confidence breeds success!
