Positions

Minnesota Reading Corps places AmeriCorps members in a variety of positions. All members begin in August and serve either full-time (about 40 hours/week) or part-time (about 20 hours/week). More than 1,000 members will serve during the 2013-2014 program year in over 600 sites across Minnesota. See a map of our sites on the locations page. Minnesota Reading Corps members will be intensively trained to either tutor children who are not on track to succeed in reading, or to coordinate literacy volunteers from the community. The following positions are available in various Head Starts, preschools, and elementary schools throughout Minnesota:

Which position is right for me?

If you have a desire to work with children directly, the Preschool Literacy Tutor or Elementary Literacy Tutor positions are right for you. The major difference between these positions is the age group of children reached. In addition, Preschool Literacy Tutors work with children in small groups and individually, within the classroom environment, whereas Elementary Literacy Tutors work only one-on-one with students outside of the classroom. The Educator Corps Preschool Literacy Tutor position is only for employees at a Reading Corps site who want to incorporate the Reading Corps model into their current jobs. If you are interested in being involved in education but are less drawn to direct service with children, the Volunteer Coordinator position may be a good fit.
